Re: Gparted how many hours????????????????????

Which operations are you performing?

Are you simply creating and deleting partitions (these operations are relatively fast)?

Or are you moving and resizing partitions (these operations can take a long time)?

Also which version of GParted are you using?

Which version !

I just downloaded it last night

Which operation = the first one.   I am not too familiar with all the operations.

Is there a manual to learn it.

I was resizing.    C from 120 GB  to 55 to create another partition for data

Re: Gparted how many hours????????????????????

Usually it takes very long if the start sector of the partition is moved.
It is better to prepare the ntfs partitions to resize by running the defrag program before, 1 or 2 times.
The longest operation I remember to be reported in this forum was about 40 hours long. I don't really know details on "ntfstools". Anyway, it is safer to run the computer on UPS and take backup of important files before. There is always a risk of hardware failure.

Documentation is located in the main GParted site:
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/documentation.php
It isn't perhaps 100% up to date, because the software is constantly under development, but essential points remain the same.

Partitioning operations are quite advanced, so one must be very careful.

About the version:
There are at least 2 versions available to download in the main page: the "stable" version and the "testing" version. Both can be used, but they always differ in some points. That's why gedakc asks for the version number.
Furthermore, all older versions, since 0.1 are available to download from the download server.

(Topic moved to the Live Media section).

*** It is highly recommended to backup any important files before doing resize/move operations. ***
