Topic: Gparted on a Partition

Hello I greets You!
I would like to be of use with pleasure GParted on a partition.
In addition I have copied the files of the folder Isolinux on the suitable Partion.
In the digging I have made following entries (menu.list):

# This entry automatically added by the Debian installer for a non-linux OS
# on /dev/sdc5
title         GParted

root         (hd1,6)

kernel         /ISOLINUX.BIN quiet vga=791 MEMDISK_size=100000

initrd         /MEMDISK /S

Unfortunately, Gparted does not start!
Which files must I copy on the hard disk?
How are the right entries in the Grubmenü?

Hello Martin,

if your problem is not yet solved, could you tell us, what version of "GParted" did you try to install ?
What exactly do you want to do with "GParted" installed on an (extended?) partition of a (SATA/USB or SCSI?-)harddisk. This partition is not resizeable then , if "working Gparted" resides on it. What operation system(s) do you use (Debian Etch, I assume). What bootmanager do you use (Grub seems to be involved ) ? If "Grub" manages the whole system boot, you should directly call "GParted's" loading kernel (e.g. version 0.3.8.1: "vmlinuz") , its initializing ramdisk "initrd1.img" with the appropriate parameters by "menu.lst" and have the "big" filesystem-image with "GParted" ("filesystem.squashfs") in the same folder "live". That's all.

"menu.lst" might look like this :

title GParted 0.3.8.1
rootnoverify (hd1,6)
kernel /live/vmlinuz1 boot=live union=aufs    noswap noprompt vga=788 ip=frommedia
initrd /live/initrd1.img

There is no need to "boot the partition" , if its bootable at all.
