Topic: Blackscreen, can't do nothing

Hi,

After the boot of the live CD, I choose le first option in the list... there are a lot of text (loading vmlinuz)... But it stops here... blackscreen and I can't do nothing sad

I saw a lot of people with this problem... but they choose a resolution screen... but me it shows nothing.

What's the problem ? hmm

Re: Blackscreen, can't do nothing

Hi,
please give us some technical data :
used version of GParted ; system on which is was used  (laptop or not, manufacturer / provider , processor, ramsize, graphic card, operation system; special features, one should know, concerning HDD storage configuration or else ).

Generally, it looks like a problem of the graphic system. Did you try to return (from your blackscreen) to console with "Ctrl-Alt-Backspace" and/or use "Forcevideo vesa" on command line or choose vesa-mode from (syslinux-)startmenu ? If you saw the scrolling console messages on installation , 800 x 600 resolution was already working. Every now and then the graphic system fails to switch correctly to the desktop, give it one or two new trials then ... and it works finally; that is my experience with the last three distributions of "GParted Live".

Re: Blackscreen, can't do nothing

I had the same problem with my new ASUS laptop.

In my case it helped to add 'acpi=off' as boot option.

You can add this by pressing [TAB] and type it at the end of the now viewable boot options...

Does this solve your problem?

The truth is out there ... I want to believe

Re: Blackscreen, can't do nothing

I'd like to add that latest GParted livecd versions need to run Forcevideo with "sudo" :
sudo Forcevideo (...)

Furthermore, it is good to mention the GParted version that caused the problem. In general, using a newer version solves many problems.
