Topic: Huge window - video problem

I have tried to find a solution in the forum, but failed.

I use the Live CD, fat32 file system, Windows XP, Acer laptop computer with Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML integrated graphics.

Live CD boots fine, and everything looks fine until the window with the different partitions opens. The problem is that it is huge; only 10 percent of the window will be visible on the screen. I have tried using the Forcevideo command, but am told that the files that controls video are locked.

Any suggestions?

Re: Huge window - video problem

It seems very strange to me. It is more frequent to have the inverse: a small window, because GParted tries to use the highest available resolution.

Which is the livecd version you use?

Re: Huge window - video problem

I am using version 0.3.7.7. For the sake of it I downloaded Parted Magic, which is based on the same version of Gparted, and the result was the same: huge window.

Can you try some older version, from the 0.3.4-x series, please?
Those versions were based on gentoo linux, instead of debian for the actual versions. They boot differently than last versions.
Nevertheless I remember that those intel integrated graphics adapters were often a nightmare for the developer...

Re: Huge window - video problem

So, I tried the 0.3.4 version, and it works. The "auto-configuration" option produces a window that is small, but not in the required wide-screen resolution. However, choosing the "Vesa" option produces a correctly sized window.

I find it strange though, that the 0.3.7 version, being newer, has omitted a basic functionality that could have been maintained; presumably quite easily.

The VESA option works in most systems.

There were many changes during the last months. Even the various 0.3.4-x (from 1 to 11) don't boot all the same.
