Topic: Solved - booted Gpart-live 0.3.7 but can't start any program

I have booted up the live-cd version 0.3.7 successfully?

It leaves me with a screen blank apart from a line of Icons with the first one being a red button with an 'I' within a circle. I assume this represents an 'on switch'.

If I pass the cursor over this button, it changes to a hand. However, no matter how many times I click on it, nothing happens. The same non-result happens for each and every one of the others as well.

Any body got any idea what I should do next?

These buttons are to double-click, not just click wink

The red 0-1 is for shutting down the system.
There is an icon GParted, with something like a disk. I guess the system didn't boot as expected. Try to press ctrl+alt+backspace. This would kill X and leave you in a black terminal screen. There, you can enter the commands:

sudo Forcevideo

to configure X parameters, and

sudo startx

to restart X.
Choose default keymap (second option), a resolution 1024x768 or 800x600 and default language.

Just booted off another machine (athlon 64) worked fine - put up screen with 6 icons togetherwith descriptive captions AND started GParted as well. Same I don't want to use it on that one.

The other machine is 4-6 years old, a duron 1200 with SIS 630/730 display, currently running Windows Me. Obviously GParted doesn't like it.  I'll have to try another method.

We can regard this problem as solved. Thanks to class413 for trying.

You could try to use an older version like 0.3.4-5, 0.3.4-6 or 0.3.4-7 on this old computer.
