Topic: md5sum fails on 0.3.4-11

I downloaded gparted-livecd-0.3.4-11.iso and ran the md5sum from gparted-livecd-0_3_4-11_iso.txt and the md5sum failed.  I redownloaded the .iso and the .txt file and reran my md5 checker and it failed again.  Is there a problem with the .iso or the md5sum in the .txt file?

Not that I know of.I just downloaded that .iso yesterday and burned the livecd from it.I used the cd today to resize and move partitions. It worked great.I used the Sourceforge website.

Did you check if the downloaded files were the same? same size? same md5sum?
The right value for 0.3.4-11 is
6c90b011927b4a488f8ce7abe679b3d7
http://download.tuxfamily.org/gpartedlive/

Try to use a download manager, because the file is quite big.

Re: md5sum fails on 0.3.4-11

Thanks for the help.  I just wanted to make sure this was my problem.
I solved the problem:
I used Hash Calc to generate the md5 checksum from the my downloaded .iso file and manually checked it against the md5 sum in the release notes and they were the same.

I then deleted the old .md5 file and rebuilt a new one from scratch and ran MD5Summer (my normal MD5 check program) and it checked ok this time.

I must have had a bad character in the .iso file name even after I rechecked it.  The funny part is that I cut and paste most all data to make the .md5 file.  I must have built an .md5 file over ten times for other .iso's and had no persistant problems like this one.  Most often the .iso's are accompanied with a pre built .md5 file for download.

You don't need any special .md5 file. You can just generate the md5 sum for the ISO file and compare it with the md5 value.

Another checker for mswindows is "md5gui", a small executable that runs without any installation.
