Topic: GParted & Windows
Hello everyone!
I'm a very new user of GParted. I have a question, can GParted be used on Windows systems too or it is only for Linux/Unix?

Gparted is a Linux program. This means that it needs Linux to run. You can't install it under mswindows, but you can run it from a live cd (a bootable cd) that boots in linux. It is also contained in various rescue & tool cds, like sysresccd (and others).
It can manipulate most partition types and filesystems, including those used by linux, unix, mac, bsd, solaris, and mswindows (i.e. fat/fat32 and ntfs).
Thanks class413 for quick response.
I must admin I have very little expriences with Linux/Unix at all!! So I need all help that I can get! I have a 120GB HD with 2 NTFS patitions. I want to resize one of them to make enough space to install PCLinuxOS as a second OS on my laptop. Windows XP is OEM OS on my machine. I've downloaded GParted - LiveCD and I just wonder is it all that I need make my laptop to boot from this CD or I need to download other tools with GParted to make it works with Windows?

With the livecd you need *nothing* else. The cd boots its own operating system and contains anything needed to modify ntfs, as well as other filesystems.
You have to set the BIOS boot from the CD or DVD drive. To do this, you have to enter into the BIOS setup and put the optical drive to boot before the hard drive (it can be a permanent setting too, if there is no bootable cd on the drive the BIOS looks at the hard drive to boot from).
Read carefully the documentation:
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/documentation.php
It is better to take backup of important files before, because there is always a risk from power or hardware failure. It is better to do each step alone, then reboot into windows 2-3 times and go for the next step. It is perhaps slow, but it is better to go more slowly and safely.
Another advice: stay away from the "disk label" command. It is very dangerous, because it can delete the entire disk in seconds (there is no undo! )

Hi, I'm new to GParted Live and it seems that I cannot resize my windows partition.
I got a new T61 with 120MB and want to reduce the size of the primary partition to get some room for add'l partitions.
Burned the LiveCD image and booted the system from there. I can see my primary partition, but I'm not able to reduce the size.
Did I miss something?
Thx, Christof.
Be more specific, please. What exactly did you do?
Do you get any error message?
Do you have no resize option listed ?
