Topic: Live Cd Help - Sata

Hello,

I'm using GPARTED Live CD V.0.3.4-11 and when I put it in my computer and do a auto config boot it restarts my computer.  The previous version 0.3.3-0 would crash because I have a SATA drive.  Even after turning all the SATA drivers on it would still crash.  So, I though the newer version would fix that but it does not it just reboots the computer.

I'm using a Dell Optiplex GX620 and other computers around the institution I work for are Dells with SATA drives running both Windows XP and Windows Vista.  The RAM varies from 1GB to 2GB.

Any ideas?

What do you mean "just reboots the computer" ? Does it go back to the bootloader? 
Did you try the various boot options in the first screen?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply.  When it reboots the computer the computer goes back to the Dell power on screen.  I tried all other various boot options with the same result.  Do you know if the version I'm using 0.3.4-11 supports SATA???

Of course, it supports SATA.
Normally, after the P.O.S.T. (initial BIOS checks), the computer must run the bootloader from the CD. (This implies that you have already adjusted the boot order for the CD or dvd drive in the BIOS setup.)

Then you choose the boot option for the livecd.

Hello,

The only options I see when I boot into the GPARTED CD are auto config and a whole list of other options but I do not see an option to boot to the live cd.  I downloaded the ISO V.0.3.4-11.  I can't seem to get it to work.  Shouldn't GPARTED work with most newer computers and hard drives?  Will GPARTED work with laptops and Tablet PC's???

These various options boot the computer into Linux *and* lunch Gparted.
Some computers have problem to boot with the autoconfig option, so there are other options to try, but this is related to the hardware detection and linux bootup. Gparted would run same for any (working) option.

Obviously, the options "boot from the X hard drive boot record" don't boot the livecd.

Gparted works on computers and hard disks that use the old intel model of BIOS and Master Boot Record. Many users use it in laptops and tablet pcs as well.

I will re-download the latest Live CD and try again.  These computers are new Dells with a new BIOS.  I'll let you know what happens.
