Topic: Resizing Partitions and unallocated space help

I have a 160GB drive that is partitioned into a 10GB space and 150GB space.  I have found that 10GB partition is not enough for OS and APPS.  I want to shrink the 150GB by 30GB and increase the size of the 10GB space to 30GB.  I have successfully shrunk the 150GB space and now there is 20GB of unallocated space.  I read a forum post and it said I need to boot in XP a few times to fix everything and I did.  Now I want to increase the size of the 10GB space but it will not let me use the 20GB of unallocated space.  The unallocated space is still "attached" in some way to the original 2nd partition.  The partition I want to increase in size is partition 1.  Then there is unallocated space.  Then there is partition 2 which is the one I decreased in size.  Is there a step I am missing to use the unallocated space to increase the 1st partition?  Thanks for the help.

***PROBLEM SOLVED***
I knew there was a step I was missing.  Instead of selecting the partitions from the list I was mouse clicking on the graphic at the top of the screen which was creating a subpartition within the original partition.  You must select the partition you want to change from the list and not on the graphic.  Sorry for the post.

Re: Resizing Partitions and unallocated space help

One thing is that very often the second partition in mswindows systems is a logical partition within an extended partition. In this case, you must first shrink the logical partition, second shrink the extended partition and third grow the system primary partition.
