Topic: Boot stalls at Adaptec I2O RAID detection

Hello everybody,

my problem is as follows:
The live cd starts and gets to the point where it tries to detect
the adaptec I2O RAID controller, then hangs.

I know from other Live CD's that there are boot options like
NOSCSI and such to prevent the kernel from loading specific
modules.
Neither google nor the forum search for boot options, the doku
and the Wiki  show anything. (or i am too stupid to find it :-))

editing the Grub command line and adding noscsi don't change
anything.

Can anybody tell me how to disable autodetection of this
controller?

regards RGT

I'm afraid this information may not be of much use to you, but I did successfully have the Gparted Live CD detect my I20 raid array.

Of course, if you don't want to do operations on the RAID array, you could always unplug the adapter card.

No, you got me wrong :-)

I do NOT have this card, the thing is, gparted won't boot.
I want to stop gparted from loading the damn thing,
to be albe to USE gparted.

Re: Boot stalls at Adaptec I2O RAID detection

Sorry in advance, but this is a "me too" message.  I tried adding noi2o to the boot string but it loaded the I2O driver and hung.  Since I am using a laptop (an older Toshiba Satellite, don't remember the exact model) I can't just remove hardware even if I did have it installed.

I tried using an older version of the gparted live CD but it couldn't shring the NTFS partition because of some size issues (can't remember the entire error message but it said some block size was 1080 > 1024).  I can follow up with the exact message if it helps.

Did you try the various boot options, like older boot?

If you use vista, you can shrink ntfs using its own resize software.
