Topic: Disk Labels

Can someone explain to me what the other disk labels are for, BSD,Mac,GPT etc.
I use Ubuntu and was curious as to why I had to have my HD's using a MSDOS disk label?
Also what is the result of using the other disk labels?

Re: Disk Labels

"A disklabel is a record stored on a data storage device such as a hard disk that contains information about the location of the partitions on the disk."

Don't know about the different types.

Re: Disk Labels

I was experimenting with a drive and found that if I'd been using it on my mac it was given a mac label and would then not accept extended partitions.

I guess it applies a rule set to drive which defines what partitions are allowed and not allowed.
