Topic: Gparted did not recognice my drive

[img]Hello forum

I have just frugall install Slacko Pupy 6.3.2 to my sda7 of my HDD.
I am totally new to this OS also new to this Linux.

I try take a look to GPARTED while learning about how to install to HD.
It did regocnice my HDD as sda1 (DOS), sda5 (XP), sda6 ( DATA ), sda7 & sda8 both empty.
My HDD capacity is 150GB....all in ntfs format except sda1 is in DOS format.

I try experiment to format sda8 from ntfs become ext2 or 3 and it said that I should right click the sda8 to manage flags and set it to BOOT.

BUT NOW Gparted recognice or showing may HDD as a ONE UNALLOCATED 149.5GB !!

MY QUESTION :
1. Is this OK ? as it show my hdd as sda1....sda8 before.
2. How to fix this ?
Please not too technical or command line.

Many thanks.[/img]

Re: Gparted did not recognice my drive

Are you using the latest version of GParted (currently 0.26.1)?

If not then please try with the latest version.  One way to do this is to boot from media containing GParted Live.

No...its older version come with slacko 6.3.2....

I want to add some information...if I right click this unallocated it show information as...../dev/sda: unrecognized disk label.......( in slacko's gparted environtment )
Accidentally when I use gparted in newest Lucid environtment it recognice my HDD as before.......sda1 (DOS), sda5 (XP), sda6 ( DATA ), sda7 & sda8 both empty.

It sounds as if you encountered a bug in an older version of GParted, and that the bug is fixed in a newer version.

No Sir....
the problem is in :
Slackos's 6.3.2 with Gparted 0.23.0
Precise 5.7.1 with Gparted 0.16.1
Tahr 6.0.5 with Gparted 0.16.0

but when I use gparted in Lucid 5.2.8.005 environtment with Gparted 0.8.0 ( OLDER !!!)
it recognice my HDD as before
.......sda1 (DOS), sda5 (XP), sda6 ( DATA ), sda7 & sda8 both empty.

Re: Gparted did not recognice my drive

Would you please try the lastest version of GParted Live (currently 0.26.1-5)?

If the problem still occurs, then please also provide the output from the following two commands?

sudo fdisk -l -u

where one of the options is a lower case "L" and not the number one.

sudo parted /path-to-your-device unit s print

where /path-to-your-device is something like /dev/sda.
