Topic: gparted does not correctly see my partitions

Hi, I have a big problem.
When I launch gparted (as root, from Ubuntu dapper), it believes my 2 physical disks have only one patition each, wich is not true.
The same happens when I launch gparted (or qtparted, by the way) from a live CD.
Another symptom: when I launch gparted from a (root) command line, it starts with this message in the console:
"Currently, only 1 or 2 FATs are supported, not 246."

However, the command line utilities fdisk and cfdisk display things well [but I think I can't use them for what I want to do: resize partitions].

The following are what cfdisk correctly finds for my 2 disks:
(sorry, it's in French. As you probably guess, Primaire=primary; logique=logical)

                                        cfdisk 2.12r
                                 Unit

For gparted, Synaptic says its 0.1-0ubuntu10 (it's the official ubuntu maintained package)

The package name for libparted is libparted1.6-13; in the "version" column, it's written 1.6.25.1-1ubuntu2

It has the same error:
parted /dev/hda
####################################
GNU Parted 1.6.25.1
On utilise /dev/hda
(parted) p

Re: gparted does not correctly see my partitions

ok, that is an extremely old version of gparted and there are also newer releases of libparted. Please download the latest gparted livecd from our webpage (only 30MB) and see if it detects your parttitions.

have fun smile

Re: gparted does not correctly see my partitions

Unfortunately I got the same error with gparted from the live-cd. I tried parted from the live-cd command line too: same problem.
Thank you for your time!

Re: gparted does not correctly see my partitions

ok, now it's getting interesting, because this seems like a real bug.
Please file it in bugzilla, see http://gparted.sourceforge.net/bugs.php for more info on how to do that.

thanks!

(use the livecd and add the output of parted and fdisk please.)

Re: gparted does not correctly see my partitions

I've posted a bug for gparted 0.1 here:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=353253

Say me if you think I should file the same bug for the live-cd.

I've added screenshots from the live-cd.

Re: gparted does not correctly see my partitions

saw it, thanks.

i think this is an libparted issue because fdisk shows the partitions correct. from now on we will track progress on this in that bug.

cheers.
