Topic: GParted doesn't stop scanning!

problem: if i start gparted it doesnt stop scanning for devices and gives me the oppurtunity to use it!

i don't think that 10, 20 or more minutes are ok for scanning, or?! esp. because i used this prog times before.

the problems appears on my amd 64 x2 3800+, msi k9n sli platinum + 160gb udma133 + 300gb sata II(both samsung), no matter if i use my new ubuntu 6.10 386(as live cd & from disk) or the gparted live cd.

if i start if from the terminal

======================
libparted : 1.7.1
automounting disabled
======================

and when i close it

(gparted:7514): Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_main_quit: assertion `main_loops != NULL' failed

i 'm over this for 2 days now, and now progs like cfdisk and qtparted work...
for a history of pain & suffer(if you can understand german) http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/74427/

would be cool if somebody could help me, cause i think we?e already at the point where the error's based on the prog and not on certain partitions, the partitotion table, logical partition formats etc...

already thx!

Re: GParted doesn't stop scanning!

Hallo smile
Unfortunalty, I have no time left to read yur link, but i know it would be better to.
I guess you are using the GParted version from ubuntu ? If it is true your version should be 0.2.5, which is bad.
Nevertheless i guess your problem comes from something else.
To get off this problem, try to run gparted directly with existing devices.
I mean that if you have sda, sdb, and sde phisical hard drive, just run this :

# gparted /dev/sda /dev/sdb /dev/sde

Telle me how it works , please

Re: GParted doesn't stop scanning!

ok gparted /dev/sda works, but hda doesn't work.(=loading...)
any idea?
so should i install the new gparted version first or doesn't it matter?

ok heres me checking all hda's. i leave the gparted errors on german, unless you wan't me to translate them..

hda1

/dev/hda1   *           1       14137   113555421    b  W95 FAT32

is open and recognized as fat32 hda1p1(?).but with a warnsign

open /dev/hda1p1: no such file or directory

<-in gparted itself

hda2

/dev/hda2           14138       19457    42732900    5  Extended

:
console

Partitionen ausserhalb der Platte sind nicht m

Re: GParted doesn't stop scanning!

sure thing : i'd better update !
You can try to possibilities : either you update from ubuntu, but i guess you wont find it, either you upgrade from svn.

Re: GParted doesn't stop scanning!

Well, i must say i dont really understand your problem and then you may guess it is not easy to give you help.
Anyway, GParted always scans FAT32 very slow specialy when partition is big.
Did you try the livecd or not ?
