Topic: Problem with making a new partition

Dear Sir/madam,

I have a problem with making a new partition for an another OS. When I want to make a new partition, I only can make this for a couple of gb (1,5 GB - 8,8 GB).
As you can see, I have enough space on my C drive. I searched on the internet and I found that I need to work with GParted. I Installed it succesfully on my USB. But when I started to make a new partition, from the C disk, about 25 GB, I get an error:

Shrink file type.
Error: Extended record needed. (1168 > 1024), not yet supported. Please try to free less space.

I hope someone can help me out!

Mark

Re: Problem with making a new partition

If you use vista, you can use its own resizing tool too, to shrink the system partition.

Did you use the latest GParted version? The above error message often comes from some older GParted versions. You can find the latest stable live version in the GParted main page.
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php
In any case, don't check the 'round to cylinder boundaries' parameter, because this could change the partition start point. I guess that you need to make room at the end of the disk space.

*** It is highly recommended to backup any important files before doing resize/move operations. ***

Re: Problem with making a new partition

Thank you for your replay!

Yes I use Windows Vista, but with the partition tool of Vista I won't work because I only can make a partition with 1,5 GB (and sometimes 8,5).

I have fixed it by myself. I have run deframentation many, many times, with the build in defragmentation from Vista and another programs. And that has fixed the problem. So now I have a new partition!

Thank you very much.
