Topic: Diff between booting with "default settings", "Safe graphics" and "Fai

At first I am asked by GParted Live in which mode I would like to boot:

- Default settings
- Safe graphics mode vga="normal"
- Failsafe

Hmm, what are the differences?

Does it make sense to offer a "default settings" entry and show on another line vag="normal"??
The following would be a real chice:

- Default settings
- Safe graphics mode vesa="normal"

Furthermore I wonder why it makes sense to force a decision at this time.

As I found out there is no difference wether I select "default settings" or "Safe graphics settings "
and choose later "Run 'forcevideo'".

So what is the real difference?

Hello Peter,

you have to distinguish between the console/commandline mode, which runs first on bootup, and the X-graphic, where "Gparted" GUI is launched. If you only see flickering lines on bootup or a black screen, how could you choose keyboard type or language, even know to use "forcevideo" ?

Therefore all three menu choices have their justification.

Default settings try to auto-detect the graphics adapter and use the "appropriate" driver. In some cases this doesn't work, the monitor can't synchronize to the signal it receives (the flickering lines, or not working at all). In these cases it is possible to try with the VESA driver that works in almost any case.
There is no further impact in the GParted functionality.
