Topic: Help with GParted LIVE cd boot

Hi there!
I'm new in this forum...

Anyway.. Trying to boot GParted LIVE from cd, my pc reports an error:

"can not find any kernel image: linux"

What's wrong?
I just build a cd with GParted LIVE iso using Nero, and launched it from bios...

Thanks in advance for any answer!
Cheers...

Re: Help with GParted LIVE cd boot

Did you burn the cd as ISO image? (not just data cd).
Did you check the md5sum of the downloaded file?

Re: Help with GParted LIVE cd boot

Hello antani,

"md5sum" is a hash total of your downloaded ISO file, which confirms ( or not ), that your download was correct. You find its string in the "Release Notes" of the downloaded file and need a program, which processes your download the same way as it was done with the source file. If strings match, you can be sure, that you got the whole thing; if not, you should repeat the download. For "Live 4.5.2" ISO, you find it here. Generally, you find it in column "Notes/Monitor" (clipboard sign) in the same line as the download on the Sourceforge.net site. Most Linux distros contain a md5-generator. For Windows, you might have to search the web ("md5.exe download").

Re: Help with GParted LIVE cd boot

I miss something regarding your words.... roll sad

As I said, I just downloaded the latest ISO (dated 17.06.09) from here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile … _id=271779

I'm not able to open that ISO through Win XP (using Daemon Tools emulator)...
So where can I find the file you mentioned..? smile

Hello antani,

well, I obviously used another access, but on your download site there is also a clipboard icon (with tooltip "View Notes"), which contains the release notes (and the md5sum). Of course it's not contained within the ISO file, which would be useless. To have a look at the ISO content, you can easily mount it with Linux ( mkdir /mnt/iso ; mount -o loop /myfile.iso /mnt/iso ), or you use a free packer program like "IZArc2Go" under Windows for that purpose.

Re: Help with GParted LIVE cd boot

These are the notes of the version I downloaded:

Release Name: 0.4.5-2

        Notes:
Release notes for GParted live 0.4.5-2:
  * New GParted 0.4.5.
  * Based on Debian lenny repository on 2009/May/17, and kernel 2.6.29-4 from backports.undebian.org is used.
  * Program isolinux/syslinux 3.80 is used.
  * Program makeboot.sh was polished. Now syslinux is run without "-s" so the created USB flash drive can boot faster.
  * From this version, the released iso file is "isohybrided". Therefore you
can use cat or dd to write the iso file to USB flash drive or hard drive.  For more info, refer to http://syslinux.zytor.com/wiki/index.ph … DISK_MODE.  ///NOTE/// By doing dd or cat the iso file to your USB flash drive or hard drive, ALL THE DATA ON YOUR FLASH DRIVE OR HRAD DRIVE WILL BE OVERWRITTEN! You have been warned!
  * A boot parameter live-netdev was add in live-initramfs so it can be used to assign the network device to get filesystem.squashfs when using with PXE server.
  * Bug fixed - Unable to eject CD when rebooting.

Is it the one I should search for?

Re: Help with GParted LIVE cd boot

Exactly. The md5sum for the ISO file is
7e34ccb9b8e259db95f051aa17630fda

As cmdr mentions above, you have to serch in the web using google, for "md5.exe download". There are several small programs that give the md5sum. Just one I found is
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Fil … cker.shtml

Re: Help with GParted LIVE cd boot

Ok, I checked what you said...
The value reported is:  3D34DB0C63980379121249E75C5387E3

But I still don't know what should I do next....

Re: Help with GParted LIVE cd boot

But I still don't know what should I do next....

The md5sums are not equal, ergo your download is corrupt.
You have to download the ISO file again and check its md5sum. If it's ok (=equal), you got it.

Re: Help with GParted LIVE cd boot

Ok, I re-downloaded  the ISO...
Checked that code again, and this time MD5 reported: 7E34CCB9B8E259DB95F051AA17630FDA

So it matches with the one in the download's notes... wink

Re: Help with GParted LIVE cd boot

It worked! smile

Just a last question, I need to partition my iPod (because it has corrupted sectors) so I can do it using GParted, but how can I hid the remaing space?

Because in the actual condition (just partitioned) iTunes restores it to default settings (and deletes the partitions too)....

Thanks for all your support! wink
