Topic: how to get hex editor????

hello all

sorry for this quesion i am rather new to this

where do i find the hex editor??

gparted starts up fine from my usb and it looks like a linux or windows type program(i hope that the right thing)

i can see all of my partitions but i dont see anything for the hex

my pc is looking for am autochk.exe and i read somewhere that i need to change a certain hex in the drive to

change the "partition type" from hex 0x17 to hex 0x07

partition type 0x17 = Hidden  NTFS (NOT Visible for Windows, but for "GParted")
                   0x07 = (Visible) NTFS

i can see all of my partitions ...

Could you please clarify these two conflicting statements ?
What's the matter with (Windows) "autochk.exe" ? What' s your aim ?
