Topic: hfs+ not being created?

i got a 500 gb external hd
i made 2 partitions in disk manager on windows (as i dont have access to mac, hence why im using gparted)
anyways
both partitions are ntfs
i use gparted live to convert one of them to hfs+
and it shows it completes and all, but my windows cant read it

i even run transmac and it doesnt find it..

am i doing something wrong?

Hi!

Windows does not support the Mac-typical file systems - it only supports FAT[12|16|32] and NTFS. Thus, it is completely normal that your Windows can't read the HFS+-formatted partition.
TransMac seems to be a tool for reading MacOS X disk image files (the ones inding in .dmg) - I don#t know if it is able to read partitions.

oh, do you know what program i could possibly use to transfer files into the hfs+ partition? on windows, i dont have mac.. im only using hfs+ for the xbox 360 console and yeah

transmac can be used to format to hfs+. but it will only format the WHOLE hd, not just a single partition; once its formatted with hfs+, then you can transfer files within the program itself

its just not detecting it when i format w/ gparted

Hi!

I'm sorry - I don't know which Windows trools to use for writing Mac media. One option would be using a Mac, and the other mounting the partition in Linux (and writing your files to the partition there).
But since you say you don't have access to a Mac, you should think about your decision to use HFS+ again: HFS+ is a "Mac-only" file system, Windows can't read or write it, and the only operating systems that support all of its features are the several MAcOS X versions. So HFS+ maybe won't be really useful for you!
