Topic: Do I do something wrong: LiveCD not running on Dell Vostro 220

Live CD is successfully booting and accepting configuration parameters ( keymap, language etc...)
however, after last entry, switches off video and nothing (visible) happens at the time GUI would normally show up.
I could recognize, that SATA 320GB drive is found at sda1 ( configured with AHCI mode ), until then display acts as normal ( Intel G45/G43 ).

Similar symptoms on old 0.3.x and previous 0.4.x versions of LiveCD.
Any suggestions ?

You can try to use the alternate boot options / Forcevideo, to configure manually the graphics as VESA, resolution 1024x768 (or 800x600), that runs on most systems.

I remember that integrated intel graphics adapters were a nightmare for the developers in the past.

You made my day. Running 'fail safe' options and then manually selecting graphics as vesa / 800x600 / colordepth 24 was the clue.
Everything worked fine afterwords.
Thanks for quick assistance.

Maybe it's possible to have a regular startup with "initrd" -Parameter (in fact a Kernel-Parameter) vga=789, which corresponds to 800x600x16M(colours => 24 bit colourdepth).

And a further hint: if you want to know, what resolutions your graphic card offers to Linux, use a non-existing value (e.g vga=600)...  and you get a menu to select an appropriate video mode at a very early stage of startup !

Of course, this is only possible, if you adapt the ISO-Image or use an other storage media for "GParted"
