Topic: Compaq Armada 1575D and GParted 0.4.4-1 failed

hello *.*

I've a problem with Gparted 0.4.4-1 and my laptop COMPAQ Armada 1575D.

GParted Live starts from CD with default settings and after a long time and many lines the colored screen message comes "Package configuration - Configuration console-data - The keymap records the layout of symbols on the keyboard".
I choose my keyboard layout "qwertz - german" and after prompting and choosing the language [10] the same: many lines will be shown and after the following lines it hangs and nothing happens.
The last lines Gparted shows is:
.
.
[ 1194.146858]    [<c0106a49>]   sys_mmap2+0x61/0x9f
[ 1194.148775]    [<c011388e>]   do_page_fault+0x0/0x5ea
[ 1194.154840]    [<c02a6e3a>]   error_code+0x6a/0x70

And after "120 seconds" the message 'INFO: task hald:2096 blocked for more than 120 seconds."
And after that the next block of error messages, ending with the lines above.

Any ideas?
Please answer in "english for beginners" smile and in a way, a stupid windows user can understand.   smile

thx for all hints, Semmel.

There is always the manual configuration option, to overcome boot problems.
VESA works on most systems.

VESA works on most systems.

Any further ideas?

Looks like these are kernel oops...
I have uploaded another GParted live 0.4.5-2, which uses a newer kernel 2.6.29-4, maybe you can give it a try.
Please post your results.

Steven.

Hi Steven,

I have uploaded another GParted live 0.4.5-2, which uses a newer kernel 2.6.29-4, maybe you can give it a try.

Yes, Sir, I got it ... wink

Please post your results.

Okay, like european song-contest: here comes the votes from the german jury ... wink)

I tested the following:

1. GParted Live (Default settings)
    >>> The whole screen ist not visible (not large enough to display all lines)!
    >>> it runs (like described in my first posting) till I asked for my installed
            keyboard and my language.

    Last lines:
    ===========
    Free swap = 0kB
    Total swap = 0kB
    12288 pages RAM
    1030 pages reserved
    2574 pages shared
    9924 pages non-shared
    out of memory: kill process 2259 (hald) score 1267 or a child
    Killed process 2259

    after that the "machine" freezes ...

2. GParted Live (Safe graphic settings, vga = normal)
    >>> All lines are visible
    >>> it runs (like described in my first posting) till I asked for my installed
            keyboard and my language.

    Last lines:
    ===========
    Free swap = 0kB
    Total swap = 0kB
    12288 pages RAM
    1030 pages reserved
    2509 pages shared
    9923 pages non-shared
    out of memory: kill process 2260 (hald) score 1267 or a child
    Killed process 2260

    after that the "machine" freezes ...

3. GParted Live (Failsafe Mode)
    >>> All lines are visible
    >>> I was not asked for installed keyboard and prefered language.

    Last lines:
    ===========
    Begin: Running /scripts/live-bottom
     ... Begin: Copyimg config on real root fs ... done.
    Begin: Setting timezone ... done.
    Begin: Moving mount points ... done.
    Begin: Setting hostname  ... done.
    Begin: Adding live session user ...

    after that the "machine" freezes again ... and there is nothing I can do - but reset or new start.

I hope I typed the messages in the right spelling and it is replicable for you.
Don't forget: it only happens on/ with (?) my old Laptop "Compaq Armada 1575D" - no problems with my "normal" Desktop-PC !

Kind regards, Michael.
