Topic: Acer aspire one problem

Hello, i have an acer netbook and i have installed linux mint. but i want to install windows again. The problem is that when i try to install them via the usb stick it won't recognize the hard disk during the setup(only sees the usb stick). I have made through gparted the hard disk as fat32 but again don't see it. is there another one thing that i should do?
thanks in advance!

Re: Acer aspire one problem

Hello Brian,

does your harddisk have a (DOS/) Windows Master Boot Record ? If for example GRUB is still installed at sector 0, maybe it's ignored by Windows installation process. Where does the FAT32 Volume Boot Record reside (sector 63 is usual) ? Are there still any hidden partitions (Diagnostic, Media, Recovery) ? Does your harddisk need a special driver for Windows ?

Please give us fdisk -l -u from within a "Terminal"/console window on any Linux distro or "GParted".

Re: Acer aspire one problem

Which version of GParted are you using?  (Currently the most recent is 0.4.4)

If you know the name of the device you wish to partition, you can pass the name to gparted on the command line.
E.g.,
     gparted /dev/sda
