Topic: -SOLVED- Cannot install XP after using GParted

Hello,

I used the GParted live CD to make partitions on my hard drive (which for some reason did not work without formatting the drive ).
If I now try to install Windows XP from the CD on startup, it won't start but instead say "Could not find kernel image: pxelinux". This is very strange as I never used linux on this computer. I don't think it is the CD drive, because booting with the GParted live CD still works.
Does anybody have an idea how I can get my computer back to work and install XP again?

Are you sure that there is no any linux cd on a second optical drive, or any usb unit attached? Did you use any linux live cd other than GParted? Most linux distro cds are able to install the system on the hard drive, after the special command of course. Please, check the BIOS boot sequence again.

Any xp cd is bootable, as far as I know.
If the problem persists, you can delete the drive partitions with GParted and retry, or even create a new "msdos partition table" (this will delete the actual partition table).

Incredible but true, this Win XP CD was not bootable. I used anouther one and it worked. I wonder what use a windows CD is, from which you cannot boot. Thank you anyway for your reply. Everything worked fine, double boot has been set up.

I remember that in older times, where no boot up was possible from the cdrom drive (more than 10 years ago), the windows cd came together with a bootable msdos floppy disk that contained the cdrom driver, to make possible to read from the cdrom. Of course, this was true for w95, not xp.
