Topic: Deleting OS & repartitioning the remaining OS

8.10 and 9.04 share a drive with a common swap and media partition. Can one delete 8.10 and use that unallocated to repartition 9.04 with /home partition, retaining media without reinstalling 9.04
Please advise and thanks

I think it is possible, nevertheless you would need to reinstall the boot loader, in case its configuration files are located in the partition to delete.
Furthermore, the partition numbering could be modified. So, it can be easier to reformat the 8.10 partition as ext3 and use it as /home.

*** It is highly recommended to backup any important files before doing resize/move operations. ***

Hi!

As far as I know, Ubunutu does not rely on partition numbering in its fstab and boot loader configuration, but is uses file system UUIDs instead. Thus, modified partition numbering won't be a problem.
