Topic: No used/unused space on drive

Hey guys,

I read through the documentation and had a poke around here but couldnt find the answer.

I run  the gparted live cd then when i go to resize my ntfs vista portion, there is nothing in the used/unused columns so therefore resizing is not possible.

Any clues???

Cheers

Can you provide any GParted screenshot as well as the GParted livecd version you use, please?

*** It is highly recommended to backup any important files before doing resize/move operations. ***

Re: No used/unused space on drive

Hi!

If GParted sees the partition, but does not give information about how much of it is free and which percentile is used, this can basically mean two things:
1. GParted does not understand the file system, or it does not contain tools to handle thios file system type. Make sure you use the latest GParted LiveCD or LiveUSB.
2. The file system is in a state that prevents the tools GParted uses to do file system manipulations from working - which basically means that it is heavily damaged. In this case, you should first use the Windows tools provided by Microsoft to fixy the file system errors (since NTFS is the "native" file system for Windows from NT 4.0 on, and since it is a Microsoft development, the guys at Micrisaift should understand NTFS better than anyone else - which makes their tools first choice for fixing errors).
