Topic: [SOLVED]gparted doubled my harddisk

Hi,

after using GParted Live 0.4.3-2 my partition table seems to be hosed up...

i deleted a few partitions on my harddisk and resized the remaining partitions to fill up the free space. Everything worked flawlessly. When I restarted Windows XP the disk manager showed several unallocated spaces on the HD. When I summed up all the partitions and the unallocated spaces my HD has a capacity of ca. 80GB, however in reality it has only 40GB.

I rebooted into gparted but this time it only shows 40GB of unallocated space. Using fdisk or cfdisk everything seems to be fine, however testdisk complains about "bad ending head".

Really strange, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Bernd

Did the xp system perform the chkdsk operation to the new partition state?

Re: [SOLVED]gparted doubled my harddisk

I found out the problem was, that the harddisk "had" only 16 heads. I don't know whether this is stored in the partition table, or whereever.

Using testdisk I set the number of heads to 255 and everything was fine again.
