Topic: Can't extend partition

I have sda1 which is about 118 gb and sda2 which is about 31 gb.

I decreased the size of the main partition on sda2 to about 20 gb, have 11 gb of unallocated space at the beginning of the partition.

I want to increase the 118 gb to 129 gb, taking up the 11 gb at the beginning of sda2.

Is that possible and if not how do I make sure that everything stays on sda1 in the future, I don't know how a sda2 was created.

Re: Can't extend partition

It is possible to expand /dev/sda1 to take the unallocated space. You can do it using the GParted Livecd (preferably the leatest version).

I guess that this unallocated space is now just between the two partitions.

You don't give details on file systems and operating systems. Some  advices:

- backup any important data before any partition modifying operation.

- in case of ntfs file system, you have to boot into windows at least 2 times just after resizing, for file system check.
