Topic: LiveCD won't detect HDD

I have a 500GB sata drive, and i'm trying to give it two partitions (250GB) so i can keep XP and install Windows 7.
At first, i was getting a loop detection error when starting but i fixed that using this guide and appending "scandelay=20 cdroot=/dev/sda1" to the boot menu thingie.
I got it to boot up then but now my hard drive isn't being detected. I click on the dropdown box on the right but the only item showing up is a usb flash drive.

Another random thread somewhere said that setting my hdd to be configured as AHCI in the bios would help, but when i booted it showed me a grub command line (?) instead of the list of configs

Can anyone help or point me to a helpful thread?

Thanks for your help

Re: LiveCD won't detect HDD

Which is the version you use?
Is it the GParted livecd or any other rescue or Linux install cd?
