Topic: Optiplex 740 - GParted won't boot.

I have what appears to be the latest edition of GParted... Version 0.4.1-2.

I'm using an Optiplex 740. I also use CloneZilla LiveCD. I used CloneZilla LiveCD with this Optiplex 740 only to find out Dell included some weird chipset drivers for the HDD which made CloneZilla unusable.

I spoke to a developer on the forums for CloneZilla and he made a custom package which used the upcoming Jaunty (Ubuntu's new version to be released in March) kernel in the package. It supported the Optiplex 740 and CloneZilla Live now works.

But, GParted doesn't, and I use GParted + CloneZilla Live on pretty much every computer I run into. I work in IT so I see quite a few, including many Optiplex 740's.

What can I do to get GParted to work? Is the version I have the most up to date release? Has anybody else come across a stubborn Optiplex 740 as I have?

We are fortunate to have GParted Live maintained by the author of Clonezilla (Steven Shiau).  :-)

Hopefully he will have some time to apply a fix to GParted Live as well.

Re: Optiplex 740 - GParted won't boot.

I will take a few time for me to create GParted live based on Ubuntu instead of Debian. Since now the script to use live helper to do so is only works for Debian.
For the time being I am busy on other development about Clonezilla live, so I think it will take me longer to make a ubuntu-based GParted live.
I suggest that this workaround for you:
1. Boot a Ubuntu jaunty live CD (http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/jaunty/)

2. Add the following to your /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://free.nchc.org.tw/drbl-core drbl stable testing unstable live-stable live-testing live-unstable live-experimental

3. Import DRBL gpg key by:
wget -q http://drbl.sourceforge.net/GPG-KEY-DRBL -O- | sudo apt-key add -

4. apt-get update

5. apt-get install gparted

Then I think you will have a working gparted 0.4.1.
