Topic: GParted doesn't boot correctly

Hello all!

I was trying to use for the first time GParted, but I was caught in a problem bigger than me :\
The problem is this: I'm not able to boot GParted live from CD. The error message displayed is this:

http://img237.imageshack.us/img237/5210/errorwf9.jpg

and is displayed several times as you can see.

The message error was slightly different the very first time I tried to use GParted, because it told me to use chkdsk to fix an "unsupported 0x0004 flag" error (or something similar) for the NTFS partition. A thing that I made but, as you can see, it didn't eliminate the problem.

The content of my HDD is this:

- Main partition (Windows) 40gb
- Linux (Ubuntu) partition 5gb
- Linux Swap (500mb)
- "D:" partition (100gb)
- "E:" partition (50gb)

and I use Grub as bootloader.

Thanks for any help!

Re: GParted doesn't boot correctly

Which version of GParted Live are you using?

The latest one (I downloaded it yesterday).

The latest stable version or latest testing version.  An actual number helps a lot :-)

Re: GParted doesn't boot correctly

Ok, now we know that you are working with a LiveCD that is based on Debian GNU/Linux.

Unfortunately I do not know what is happening, but hopefully the LiveCD maintainer might know.

Another LiveCD you could try that also contains GParted 0.3.9 is the SystemRescueCD.  That one uses a different GNU/Linux distribution and might boot on your computer.

Your theory is correct: probably there is something wrong between my system and the LiveCD based on Debian! I tried to use the LiveCD based on Ubuntu and I was succesful in using the Gparted present on that disc.

Do you know how I can contact a mantainer? I'm rather new in using Linux smile

Thanks for the help!

Re: GParted doesn't boot correctly

I am glad that you were successful using GParted.

I have emailed this post to the Live CD maintainer.  For many of us in open source, this is a volunteer effort.  Hopefully he will have some time to look into this problem.

Thank you.

Tel him that, If needed, I'm ready to help the maintainer in order to individualize the culprit of the problem between my system and the Live CD smile
