Topic: NTFS vs. GParted

Hi everyone...

I ran gparted from the 8.04 Ubuntu live cd to shrink my notebook with winxp pro installed...
I would like to make a new partition for data...
but when I resize the 37,5 GB ntfs partition I get an error...
I followed the hints for resizing ntfs partition (doing just one operation) but the error remains...
I saved the details but I don't know how to let you see them...

Re: NTFS vs. GParted

Some remarks:

GParted 0.3.5 is quite old. There were many improvements since that version. Please, try the latest version.

You try to resize the partition almost at the limit of the used space. This isn't good, because the file system may behave strangely, not just regarding performance. Try to keep 15-20% free space.

Run defrag 1-2 times before resizing. Run the command chkdsk /f /r from the command line, better from the safe mode. Shut down properly the operating system, i.e. using the o.s. commands for this, not just the "power" button on the keyboard.
