Topic: Cannot increase size of a NTFS bootable partition

Hello All:

I keep my Windows XP Pro OS in a relatively small partition (15 gig) and all my documents elsewhere. This allows for relatively painless re-installation when XP inevitably goes belly up. It seems however that I have guessed to low about the size I need. Currently I only have about 1 gig free and so I need to increase the size of the partition.

For some reason, GPartEd does not give me the option to increase the partition size on this particular partition (only decrease). It will allow me to increase or decrease other partitions as I expected.

Is there some special trick to increasing the size of a NTFS boot partition?

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Update: I found this thread in the archives http://gparted-forum.surf4.info/viewtopic.php?id=153

The solution indicated that I must first "shrink" the partition. Before I just go hacking into my partition can any of you provide a little more detail of "shrinking"?

Thanks,

Jim
