Topic: a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart

after resizing my windows xp partition using gparted on a live cd, windows wont boot--even after repairing the boot sector using fixboot and the master boot record using fixmbr, respectively.

when i look at the directories on c:\ (in the recovery console) i can see that folders like "documents and settings," "program files," and "windows" dont have a file/folder size. also, they dont have any other "flags" than d------- (the file "ntldr" has -arhs---).

it looks like the file allocation table (if ntfs even uses one) is missing/corrupt... idk.

i was under the impression that gparted was a NON-DESTRUCTIVE partition manager.

please help.

Larry, do you have an idea about this one?

Some questions : is it the first hard drive ? is it SATA or IDE ? Did you resize from the end or from the beginning ? How big was your partition.
Post a screen shot of the GParted layout please.
Never got any problem like this when resizing XP here...
