Topic: gparted will not let me resize - why?

I'm new to this form and I wanted to post the image of what was going on - Oh well. I'm trying to increase the size of a 6GB partition. Ran gparted and it will not let me increase it - see below fdisk output. I thought that I should be able to do this with fdisk under linux. How come I can't change the size with fdisk of /dev/sdc6 to end at 45398016?  Is there a command line version  of gparted that will let me do this?

Device     Boot   Start      End  Sectors  Size Id Type
/dev/sdc1          2048  2466796  2464749  1.2G  e W95 FAT16 (LBA)
/dev/sdc2       2473984 15353855 12879872  6.1G 85 Linux extended
/dev/sdc5       2482176  2596863   114688   56M  c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
/dev/sdc6       2605056 15353855 12748800  6.1G 83 Linux

Command (m for help): F

Re: gparted will not let me resize - why?

I guess you have to grow the extended partition first, and then retry to grow  /dev/sdc6.

*** It is highly recommended to backup any important files before doing resize/move operations. ***
