Topic: Doesn't work

Downloaded the Stable (Latest) version of this software and all I see is a 30 second countdown, it gets to zero and then starts its countdown again... and again... and again...

It is stuck in a perpetual countdown loop.

It doesn't matter how long I sit and wait, it resets to a 30 second countdown and hitting the enter key only results in the countdown timer resetting to 30 seconds.

Suggestions on bypassing this to force the program to boot.

My current install is a WinXP which is why I downloaded the Live CD, it would appear that my 64GB SSD is not partitioned correctly by Windoze and need something like GParted to view the partitions because Windoze says that the drive is a 32GB drive and not the 64GB drive I purchased.

So I need to see if this is a 32GB drive with the wrong label on it justify the RMA and the pain of getting the drive swapped or not and to do without a computer for god knows how long.

Any suggestions?

Re: Doesn't work

To try to troubleshoot this problem, can you try booting  GParted Live without the SSD attached?

Also, what is the sector size of the SSD (e.g., 512 bytes per sector)?

Also, did you check the MD5SUM of the .iso file to confirm a good download before burning the .iso to CD?

Re: Doesn't work

Did you check md5 of the downloaded file?
Normally you have to get a screen where you can select a bootup option or modify boot parameters.
The boot process is related to the motherboard, controller and graphics hardware rather than to the hard drive it self or the operating system already installed.
Please, verify that you selected the right device to boot from in priority, and that this device is in good condition.
Furthermore, a live cd/dvd must be burnt as ISO image, not just as data disc.
Take care to disconnect any unused external USB device from the computer.

If you don't solve the problem, please provide details on your hardware.

Re: Doesn't work

gParted runs but it does not go anywhere beyond the menu options and the repeating 30 second countdown timer.

I have no way of checking the MD5SUM either.

Do you have a command line string that I could use to get it to run? Its not the first linux based software that I have used that had faults in it, so I am looking at this as an issue with the kernel build rather than the gP software.

Hardware,

Zotac ZBOX-ID11 Intel Atom dual core (3.2Ghz output from 2x1.6Ghz CPU)
2 Gigs DDR2 Ram PC3100 (from memory - ha!)
SSD is a 2.5" Kingston now100 V 64GB (SV100S2/64G)

External drives attached...
1TB Seagate (Brick) 5.25" external powered storage
640GB Seagate 2.5" (USB powered) storage
Samsung DVD-RW (USB Powered)
Logitech Mouse & KB via WiFi Dongle adapter.

OS
Retail (Boxed) WinXP Home Edition

Basically, nothing out the ordinary for a Window box set up.

ISO was burned correctly as the thing runs except for the issue I described, as also stated, not the first time I have encountered this (on a different system) where the issue was in the kernel.

Re: Doesn't work

I have read several threads where either the gParted LiveCD does not run properly or when it does it does not perform as expected or at all and that says allot to me.

I suggest that the problem is in the LiveCD build as its not the first time I have had a *nix based live CD fail due to the suppliers build.

I will be digging out an old Ubuntu ROM as I know it works as I do have one PC running Linux although I haven't used it in about 18 months, it was a download via the same modem and ISP and browser. smile

Re: Doesn't work

Problems with booting from CD are often a result of a bad download.  Even a few bad bytes might permit the CD to boot partially, but not fully.  That is why we highly recommend checking that the MD5SUM of the downloaded .iso file matches the MD5SUM listed on the web site.

For Windows, you can perform an Internet search for "Windows md5sum download" to locate a program that will display the md5sum in Windows.
