Topic: Video Off after booting Live CD

Hi,

I tried to boot the live CD 0.3.7.7 to my PC, but after entering keymap and preferred language, the time the X environment should come up, my Monitor turns off and there is no picture. For about 10 seconds, the CD drive is spinning on, so it seems the software is running, only the X window cannot be displayed. I tried all three graphics modes from the CD boot menu (normal, vga, failsave), its the same problem with all of them.
Can anyone explain this strange behaviour and give me a hint what to do?

Greetings,

Michael.

Re: Video Off after booting Live CD

Hi Michael,

I had a similar problem with geparted 0.3.4.11 and solved it with a supplemental kernel parameter "video=vesafb", which forces vesa-modes. You have to add it to "syslinux.cfg", under label "GParted Live (Default settings)" , "append"-section, before "vga=788" (the latter obviously works, hence you were able to choose keymap etc.). With Windows use "notepad.exe"(Editor) to add parameters, because it leaves Linux text layout untouched (but text looks a bit scrambled).

If you see a cross cursor in the middle of your monitor after switching to X-window mode, all went well.
