Topic: [SOLVED]Forcevideo not working

Hello,

I am on Windows XP and have made an iso of the GParted LiveCD 0.3.4.-11 and it boots up ok. But I get stuck at the configuration of the video driver:

I have an Intel Corp. 82865G Integrated Graphics controller and Generic Monitor 28.0-96khz, Xorg detects i810.

But selecting i810, vesa (error: no matching modes) or vga (also others tried but not listed here) returns the following error: fatal server error, no screens found!

Vesa with resolution 1024x768 should work surely ?!

Greetings, Burton

Nothing is *sure*. VESA option works on most systems, but perhaps not on *any* system.

If VESA 1024x768 doesn't work, you can try some of the newer versions (they use other system detection software and work on even more systems). The latest stable version 0.3.7-7 was out just yesterday.

Re: [SOLVED]Forcevideo not working

Thanks for your reply, but I only just recently downloaded the iso and I dont think the newer version will have a tremendous amount of improved drivers. The system I have is several years old now anyway, so vga / vesa should work without any problem.

I would prefer to know first which drivers WILL work on my pc, I gave the above configuration public. Could there be any other reason why it isnt detecting my screen, as this seems too simple as a provided solution.

Do you have all the appropriate system configuration on the driver to be able to tell me which other driver to use, or do you need more information about the video controller? Where to find?

Re: [SOLVED]Forcevideo not working

0.3.4.-11 comes from December 2007. 7 months later there is a lot of work done by both Gparted and the Livecd developers. Change logs since then show this.
Especially for the livecd, this work aims mainly to make it work better on the 1000s of possible computer configurations. Background or window colours are really secondary for them. The various versions  solve previous problems. Intel integrated graphics adapters caused problems since long. Late versions work much better on most systems.

We can't tell which drivers *WILL* work on a pc unless we test them.

Re: [SOLVED]Forcevideo not working

OK, so the only solution seems to be to redownload the latest iso - i'll have a try !

EDIT: the version GParted-livecd 0.3.4-8 seems to be available as an iso, but gparted-0.3.7 is a tar-file! Can I not use this as a bootable cd ?

Re: [SOLVED]Forcevideo not working

All versions of the livecd are available to download, since the old      0.0.9.-alpha1 up to the latest stable 0.3.7-7. Don't confuse Gparted 0.3.7 with the livecd 0.3.7-x.

Look at the download page,
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile … _id=271779
Look for the option "Browse all files" in the Download tab. There is an option for older livecd versions.

Sometimes it happens that an older version works better for some specific system.

The tar files are source code packs, for those who want to compile Gparted themselves and eventually modify or adapt it. A lot of work is needed to make the livecd ISO from there. This source code is used by the developers of the various Linux distributions to make software packs ready to install on their distributions.

Re: [SOLVED]Forcevideo not working

Great - the new update recognized the screen now and all went well. Thanks and bye.
