Topic: Please help

I have a vista notebook - lenova 410y with one button recovery etc.. -  in which a 20gb is the boot partition "C' - then the extended partition of 80gb in "D". 1. I can shrink the "D" to give me 40gb free. But this is at the last in the extended partition area - can be "E" or unallocated.

2. i want to grow my "C" to add this free space .

3. Can not drag the arrow. - says allready at max.

Please point me to the right procedure.

Re: Please help

I guess you have d: in an extended partition. To extend c: you need a contiguous unallocated space. If this unallocated space is at the end of the drive, you have to move the second partition to the end and shrink the extended partition too, to leave that space out of the extended partition. Then you can grow the primary partition.
Can you post a Gparted screenshot please?

Re: Please help

Screenshots are stored in the RAM, because the O.S. runs exclusively on RAM (no swap on the hard drive). You can copy it on a floppy disk or usb stick. The documentation shows how to mount such a device and copy the picture.

If your partitions are:
/dev/sda1 primary (your c: )
/dev/sda2 extended
/dev/sda5 logical (your d: ),
you shrink /dev/sda5, then you shrink /dev/sda2, and finally you expand /dev/sda1.
The extended partition is noted with green lines on the graph.
