Topic: troubles on nvidia RAID system

Hello,

i'm having troubles with gparted 3.6.7 livecd and my system (nforce 4 590sli amd mainboard). i have three discs in raid-striping mode (3x233gb = 700gb).

on this 700gb volume i have installed a 50gb partition which is formatted as NTFS. now i want to copy this partition to make a "backup". unfortunately, the copy process only takes ~3 seconds, after which a second partition is created (and can be seen in windows vista), but it contains no data (vista asks me to format this partition before it can be used).
when i copy some data into this partition and then format it in gparted, the format process completes without an error, but the data is not deleted from the volume (back in vista, all files are still there and functional). i even tried formatting the existing partition - the format process completes without errors, but not a single byte has been deleted. i can still boot from the partition and use it as if nothing happened?!

on top of this, in the top right corner of gparted i see three devices (/dev/sda, /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc), each containing 233gb, and not a single 700gb sized volume. so my guess is gparted doesn't recognize my raid volume at all (but i'm still wondering why all operations complete without errors).

what can i do?

thanks for creating gparted live, it's a nice tool!

Re: troubles on nvidia RAID system

Is this a real hardware RAID?
Anyway, you could try to use Clonezilla, a software especially made to copy partitions and entire drives.

Re: troubles on nvidia RAID system

yeah, it's a real hardware RAID (nforce 590 chipset)
i already tried clonezilla but it doesn't work either- not remembering what the exact cause was but if i remember correctly something along the same line.
thanks for the tip though.

Re: troubles on nvidia RAID system

I just saw it: 0.3.6-7. There is a latest live cd version, 0.3.7-5.Could you try it, please?

Re: troubles on nvidia RAID system

i now tested the latest version: gparted-live-0.3.7-7
still get three harddisks with 233gb each, but this time it doesn't even show any partitions, just "unallocated".

i'm wondering if i'm the only one with a nvidia 590 chipset mainboard?! it's a pretty common chipset built into many many mainboards. and it's got 6 sata ports so i guess i'm also not the only one running it in RAID mode...?
