Topic: LiveCD Compatibility

I just got a new laptop and I wanted to create some new partitions for dual booting. But, when I looked at the LiveCD download page for gparted, it said it was for x86 systems. Does that mean it won't work on my x64 system?

If its needed, I have an AMD Turion II Ultra dual-core mobile m600 processor and I'm running Windows 7 64-bit

Side question: I saw that after resizing a partition Vista will have problems starting up. Does this also happen to Win7?

Re: LiveCD Compatibility

GParted Live works on 32 and 64 bit systems that are based on the x86 architecture.

As a general rule with Windows, if you move the start of the boot partition, then the boot process will be broken and you will need to use some of the Windows rescue commands to restore proper boot functionality.

For simplicity, use the most recent version of GParted (currently 0.4.8), and do not move the start sector of the boot partition.

Re: LiveCD Compatibility

Thank you, but i'm still confused. If I use the LiveCD, then I know there is no problem with the operating system. But, if its for systems based on the x86 architecture, does that mean it will not run on my x64 CPU?

Re: LiveCD Compatibility

The file system is independent of the processor architecture.
