Topic: No boot after using Gparted ! Need urgend help!!!!

I started from Live CD as I have an XP system. After burning ISO and boot, all the prompts were scrolling and at least it was saying to start Gparted - exactly as described in the docs.

but then I got no signal to my screen, everything was black, even after lots of minutes.

So I switched off my PC to try a normal XP boot and forget Gparted.

But now, nothing works. If I switch on my PC there is no boot, no bios starts, everything is quit, no beep, black screen from the beginning.

HD is running, but nothing happens. Even a CD is not rekognized, so I can also not boot from CD.

WHAT HAS GPARTED DONE TO MY HARDWARE???

My environement:

Dell PC,
ATI Radeon
2 HDD
LCD Screen

I need urgently help, to get back to my XP

Thanks

Re: No boot after using Gparted ! Need urgend help!!!!

It can't be related to Gparted.
Are you sure your hardware is working?

Do you have any USB device attached on the computer? In this case, unplug it, unplug all cables from the back, especially the power cable, wait a minute, connect them back and retry to start the computer.

If the default Gparted boot option doesn't work, you can try another, like VESA driver.

EDIT
I see you already found the cause of the problem.

Re: No boot after using Gparted ! Need urgend help!!!!

But was indeed related to Gparted. I can reproduce the situation:

After booting from Live CD the switch to GUI doesn't work.

Then the PC doesn't work.

Then I have to pull out the memory, plug it in back and everything works fine.

But... Gparted will not work.  Cause some issues to my graphical card (ATI Radeon 9500 Pro/ 9700) and to my memory.

If there is a simple solution, I will try it again. If not I have to install something elso to manage the partitions.

And third attempt....

booting with forced VESA....works....

but the issue to my PC afterwards remains. Should something has to do with my hardware....

But occurs only when the Gparted was booted. Afterwards the PC does not work, but now ....

I find out that I only to have unplug the PC from AC, wait a little and replug it ...than it works.

Thanks...

Re: No boot after using Gparted ! Need urgend help!!!!

I don't remember any similar report. Is Gparted the only livecd that would cause this?
If so, could you submit a bug report, please?
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/bugs.php
Details on the hardware (motherboard, chipset, drivers, controllers, hard disks & partitions  woiuld be helpful).

Re: No boot after using Gparted ! Need urgend help!!!!

But is definetely reproducable.

My HW:

Dell Dimension 4550 (=Motherboard)
Phoenix (09/23/03)
Motherboard Chipsatz    Intel Brookdale i845PE

Intel Pentium 4, 2533 MHz (19 x 133), Northwood

DIMM1: Nanya NT512D64S8HB1G-6K               512 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM  (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz)  (2.0-3-3-6 @ 133 MHz)
DIMM2: Micron Tech. 16VDDT6464AG-335B4    512 MB PC2700 DDR SDRAM  (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz)  (2.0-3-3-6 @ 133 MHz)

ATI Radeon 9700 TX 128M TV-Out

Hitatchi   IC35L120AVVA07-0  (120 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100)
Seagate  ST340014A  (40 GB, 7200 RPM, Ultra-ATA/100)

Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection  (192.168.2.154)

I think it has something to do with electrical system and memory.  When I switch off the PC, it is not currentless - can see it at the Network LED. And maybe the memory after running Gparted is in some way full and not empty. So, if restarting the computer nothing could be load to the memory ?!

This never happens since years, but now with Gparted. And is reproducable.

Re: No boot after using Gparted ! Need urgend help!!!!

Can you try to turn off any power management from the BIOS?
You can turn it on again after finishing partition change work.
