Topic: Gparted Shows entire Hard drive as unallocated.!

Hi.!!
A little background:
I have a 40 GB hard drive with two NTFS partitions, one /root, one /swap and one /home partition.I dual boot Vista and Ubuntu on it.Both are working without any problems.I am using Gparted 0.3.3 [not the LiveCD].
The problem started after I created the separate /home partition. Now Gparted shows the entire HDD space as unallocated. Here is the content of sudo fdisk -lu:

Any help will be appreciated.!

Re: Gparted Shows entire Hard drive as unallocated.!

How did you create this last partition? with the same Gparted version or other software?

In any case, you can try a recent version of the livecd. It contains newer versions for the various libraries.

Hi class413.!
I had used Gparted 0.3.3 for creating /home partition from Ubuntu LiveCD.

And I did try the latest version [gparted-livecd-0.3.4-11.iso] of Gparted liveCD.Still have the same problem.

Re: Gparted Shows entire Hard drive as unallocated.!

Hi

this thread might be a bit old, but I have the same problem. I am running Ubuntu (new to linux only be using it for a few weeks) and dual booting to windows. Unfortuanately I let the defualts apply when in stalling ubuntu along side xp and ubuntu partition has consumed all of the free space, so now my XP partition is full. I did try installing partition magic on xp but it shows no partitions. Not even the xp partition?? So booted into ubuntu and installed gparted, same thing it shows the whole disk as being unallocated and no xp partition.

I am using version 0.3.5 and ubuntu is the heron edition.
I think possibly the critical factor is that it is using one of these new Solid State (Diskless) drives. Perhaps the hardware is not seen by Partition magic or Gparted in the same way a old fashion disk drive is seen.

Any suggestions?

Re: Gparted Shows entire Hard drive as unallocated.!

Hi

this is all fixed, I found that running gparted from terminal window it showed an error "can not have over lapping partitions" So I run testdisk, did an analyse, wrote the changes to disk, rebooted and it all gparted to see the disk.
Run live CD and setup the partitions.
Phew

Re: Gparted Shows entire Hard drive as unallocated.!

Thank you for these explanations.
I remind that there are newer Gparted versions, more powerful, installed versions as well as livecds.

You must run GParted as root.
